Congestion can be one of the trickiest skin challenges to overcome. Even if you manage to get it under control, it can make a triumphant return in a blink of an eye.

Traditional methods like peels and pore strips can temporarily empty your pores, but the long-term damage from these sorts of solutions can lead to premature signs of ageing and major irritation.

Since the T-zone is one of the most common areas for congestion to crop up and hang out, we’ve designed a mist with the strength to target this area, while still maintaining our promise to be gentle on your precise skin.

The Congestion Protection 5% AHA Mist is formulated to help you get your congestion on a short leash. The reason it works is because Alpha Hydroxy Acids are able to exfoliate both at the surface level and deep inside your pores by breaking up the sticky cells that lead to congestion. In just one use, you’ll feel your skin start to breathe again.

When the dullness caused by dead skin cells is removed, you’ll notice a brighter, healthier complexion and your skin will feel softer and smoother. This is one of the easiest ways to get that youthful glow you’ve been looking for.

The lactic acid found in this blend has also been proven to help regulate and boost collagen production and necessary proteins that are needed to restore thinning and ageing skin. Without congestion in the way, the other ingredients in your skincare routine are able to get where they need to as well, thus improving the efficiency and effectiveness of all your products.

As an added bonus, we’ve added chamomile floral water to this blend to provide your skin with an extra dose of soothing and calming goodness. Chamomile extracts are an effective anti-inflammatory for skin that is prone to breakouts and other conditions caused by inflammations.

Start by using 1-2 per week for a minimum of 2 weeks. If you find that your skin requires the mist more often, you can increase by one day every two weeks to assess your skin’s tolerance and need. Do not exceed more than once per day.

  1. Cleanse your face with your recommended cleanser.
  2. Give the mist bottle a good shake and spritz a few times onto a clean cotton ball or pad. Do not spray directly onto your face.
  3. Gently swipe the cotton ball over your T-zone, including your chin. Be sure to avoid your eye area.
  4. Allow the mist to sit for approximately 5 mins before applying any other skin care products in your routine. Always ensure that you follow up with a moisturizer that contains natural sunblock ingredients.

Note: While we’ve formulated this mist with your T-zone in mind, it is safe for use on other areas where you notice congestion. Just be sure to slowly introduce it to the areas following the guidelines lined out in step #1.

Ask a Question
  • I am currently using a rose water/witch hazel/aloe face mist as a toner. Should I use the Congestion Protection Mist before or after my usual face mist toner?

    Thanks for the question :)
I’d recommend using the Congestion Protection first as you’ll want the AHAs to be able to get access to your skin first rather than having another mix of ingredients to work through that could dilute their potency down from the 5%.

  • Is the lactic acid mentioned in the description of this product vegan? I did not see it listed in the ingredients. I only see citric acid...

Thanks for your question. The short answer is yes! The lactic acid is vegan as this AHA comes from bilberry in the formula.

The longer answer is this formula uses several different natural plant based ingredients for its source of AHAs. More specifically:

    - Lactic acid from bilberry
    - Glycolic acid from sugar cane
    - Citric acid from orange and lemon
    - Malic acid from sugar maple
    - Tartaric acid also from sugar maple

    I hope that helps :)

    Thanks again for your question!

  • How long does this product last before it needs to be replaced (expiry wise)? Thanks!

Thanks for your question! Our mist is good for approximately one year from the time of purchase.

  • Hi, Would this help remove or lessen the appearance of Sebaceous Filaments?

Hi there! What a wonderful question and the quick answer is... YES! While it's impossible to shrink enlarged pores, we can minimize their appearance by allowing them to relax and operate as they are intended too. Congestion is a major issue for sebaceous filaments as 'stuff' (including excess sebum) gets stuck when they reach the exit and hit a wall of dead skin. The AHAs will help remove that dead skin getting in the way so that the path is reopened and your pores are able to continue releasing and purging as they should. When your pores aren't backed-up with excess build-up, the walls are able to relax and the lack of stretch helps to minimize their appearance. In combination with a good hydrator to lubricate your pores and fruit enzymes to exfoliate dead skin from within the pores (yup- we shed inside our pores too), you're sure to see improvement in the appearance of your sebaceous filaments. Hope that helps!

  • Hi! I just watched the video and was so excited to see this product! I noticed it was applied around the nose - is this gentle enough if you have rosacea? My t zone is fine but I have the milia type bumps and hormonal cystic acne and thought it could help with that. - Danielle _____________________________________________________________________ Hi, I'm wondering the same as Danielle, above.. I have extreme (and itchy/sensitive) redness that I can only assume is rosacea, plus the extreme flakiness of seborrheic dermatitis... I'm hoping this product will make a difference as nothing else seems to! - Gaby

Thanks for the question Danielle & Gaby :)

So I can't say FOR SURE as it depends on where your skin's barrier is at and how well YOUR skin responds to AHAs (aka fruit enzymes or acids) - if your skin's barrier is compromised along with rosacea, AHAs can actually be an asset in helping your barrier repair (because they get any debris out of the way so beneficial ingredients that repair, and soothe can penetrate the skin readily). When AHAs aren't overused and are in a gentle formula (like the one we created), they can be safe for those with sensitive skin - including rosacea.

If you've used our pineapple facial scrub, our pure amore gel cleanser or our green tea & pineapple facial cleanser, you've already experienced AHAs (pineapple extra / pineapple fruit enzymes) in a low dose - about 1/3 to 1/2 of the dose in our Congestion Protection Mist. So this will give you an idea of whether your skin is at least tolerate to a SUPER low dose of AHAs or not.

Most orchids should be able to handle this mist on as "as needed basis" and no more than once a week. In fact, I suspect many orchids won't need to use this treatment as often as other floral auroras (and one a week might be too much). Using it once during your skin's natural cycle may be enough (so once every 2 to 4 weeks) depending on if you're going through a skin shed or not, and depending on where you are at in your hormonal cycle (for example, right before your period and through menstruation our sebum can become stickier due to hormone fluctuations).

To increase your chances of being able to tolerate AHAs, be sure you have barrier repair products in your routine (products rich in plant-based oils & butters) as well as a hydrator to correct dehydration. And be sure to be "sun safe" - as in avoiding it on your face and protecting it with a 20% zinc moisturizer or rosacea specific sunscreen when you'll be getting some exposure.

And always, always patch test! If you experience any tingling, this is your skin's protective barrier reacting to the product and shows that it's still compromised. Since AHAs work by breaking down any sticky sebum and any excess buildup of the skin's top layer, be extra careful to not overuse them or go in without a patch test. Overusing AHAs or going in without patch testing to see where your lipid barrier (your skin's natural protective barrier) is at, could result in an inflammatory reaction - which is the last thing we want!

Oh, and I should mention: we know studio sidekick Christine's skin can't handle AHAs but she's an extreme example of the orchid floral aurora. Her lipid barrier is severely compromised - lots of cracks that let in allergens - of which she has many - which continually keep her skin ready to react at the drop of a dime. For her, it's more important for her to focus on quick absorbing hydrators and reparative + protective applications (from moisturizers). Even though we could speed up the process of repairing her barrier with AHAs, it's not worth the potential reaction her skin would have as keeping redness down is her personal goal (so it's slow and steady towards repair).

  • Would you recommend this for chest and/or back acne or another product? Thank you!

    Thanks for your question!
When it comes to chest and back areas, the same skincare principals for acne care (and clearing) can be applied. So when it comes to fighting congestion from a build-up of dead skin cells, this is definitely the product for that! I'd recommend combining it with our charcoal soap or tea tree scrub.

    I hope that helps :)
